SA business group says firms that suffered financial loss should be compensated
Business SA wants a compensation package for South Australian businesses who have suffered financial loss as a result of the state’s hard lockdown.
Its call for government support has been prompted by yesterday’s revelation that SA was forced into lockdown because of one person’s lie about how they had contracted COVID-19.
Business SA chief executive Martin Haese says payments exist for extended power outages, and a similar compensation scheme should be provided to businesses who have suffered during the shutdown.
“If there is enough horsepower left in the state budget, we would really be looking to the State Government to say yes there might be some limited circumstances where business owners have absolutely suffered materially as a result of throwing their perishables in the bin,” she said.
